In an interview with CNN, Trudeau said that she first started experiencing symptoms of bipolar disorder in her early twenties.

She said that she would go through periods of intense depression, followed by periods of mania. During her manic episodes, she would feel euphoric and energized, but she would also make impulsive decisions and engage in risky behavior.

Trudeau said that she finally sought help for her bipolar disorder after her son, Michael, died in an avalanche in 1998. She said that the grief of losing her son triggered a manic episode, and she was hospitalized for a time.

Since her diagnosis, Trudeau has been open about her experiences with bipolar disorder in the hope of raising awareness about the condition. She has written a book about her experiences, and she has spoken publicly about her struggles.
