Nadine Arslanian, Wife of Sen. Bob Menendez, Under Investigation for Allegedly Receiving Gifts From Favor-Seekers
Nadine Arslanian, the wife of New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, is under investigation by federal prosecutors for allegedly receiving gifts from individuals who sought favors from her husband.
Arslanian, an international businesswoman, married Menendez in 2020 after dating for several years. The couple reportedly met in 2011, and Menendez was introduced to Arslanian by the owner of an IHOP restaurant.
The investigation into Arslanian’s activities is separate from a previous 2015 corruption case against Menendez which ended in a mistrial. The probe reportedly dates back to at least 2019.
Arslanian has not been charged with any wrongdoing at this time.
Arslanian’s lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, has denied any wrongdoing by his client.
“Nadine Arslanian is a successful businesswoman who has never engaged in any illegal or unethical conduct,” Dershowitz said in a statement. “She is cooperating fully with the investigation and is confident that she will be cleared of any wrongdoing.”
Menendez has also denied any wrongdoing.
“I have always conducted myself with the highest ethical standards,” Menendez said in a statement. “I am confident that this investigation will clear my name.”
The investigation into Arslanian is the latest in a series of scandals to ensnare Menendez. In 2015, he was indicted on federal corruption charges, but he was acquitted in 2018.
It remains to be seen whether Arslanian will be charged with any wrongdoing. However, the investigation is sure to cast a shadow over her husband’s political career.
