The wrestling world is in shock following the death of Bray Wyatt at the age of 36.

Wyatt, whose real name was Windham Rotunda, was a third-generation wrestler who had been with WWE since 2009. He was known for his innovative characters, including the cult leader Bray Wyatt and the supernatural being The Fiend.

WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque announced the news on social media.


“Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda — also known as Bray Wyatt — unexpectedly passed earlier today,” Levesque wrote. “Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time.”

Wyatt’s death has sent shockwaves through the wrestling world, with stars from every promotion taking to social media to pay tribute.

The Rock, who is one of the biggest names in wrestling history, wrote: “Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family. Loved his presence, promos, in ring work and connection with the WWE universe. Very unique, cool and rare character, which is hard to create in our crazy world of pro wrestling.”


Triple H added: “Bray was one of the most creative minds in our industry, and his impact on WWE will be felt for years to come. He was a true artist and his work inside the ring was incredible. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing and my thoughts are with his family and friends.”
