Riverside, California veterinarian Dr. Aaron Bivens passed away on Sunday, July 30, after a drowning accident in Lake Mead, Las Vegas.
Dr. Bivens was a dedicated veterinarian who worked at South Buffalo Animal Hospital.
He was also a reserve police officer and an advocate for The Wounded Blue Foundation, an organization that works to destigmatize mental health within law enforcement.

Dr. Bivens’ death has been met with an outpouring of grief from the community. Many have taken to social media to pay tribute to his dedication to animals and his compassion for people.
“Dr. Bivens was a fierce advocate for animals,” said Gita Mason, a local resident. “He saved my pet’s life, and I will never forget his kindness and compassion.”
“Dr. Bivens was a wonderful human being with a true love for all animals,” said Daniel Mamau, another local resident. “He will be deeply missed.”
Dr. Bivens was a graduate of Tuskegee University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He was a recipient of several awards for his academic excellence, including the ACVIM Clinical Excellence Award and the AAHA Small Animal Medicine Achievement Award.
Dr. Bivens was passionate about theriogenology, the study of animal reproduction. He was particularly interested in brachycephalic breeds, which have short noses and can be prone to breathing problems.
Dr. Bivens’ death is a great loss to the Riverside community. He will be remembered for his dedication to animals, his compassion for people, and his commitment to making the world a better place
