Matthew Klotz is a deaf swimmer who has broken multiple world records and won numerous awards. He is also set to appear on the 25th season of Big Brother, making history as the show’s first hearing-impaired contestant.
Klotz was born in Cameron Park, California, in 1996. He was diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of two, but that didn’t stop him from pursuing his passion for swimming. He started swimming at the age of five and quickly showed promise.
In 2013, Klotz competed in the Summer Deaflympics in Bulgaria. He won two gold medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke events and a bronze medal in the 400m individual medley.
Klotz continued to excel in swimming, and in 2017, he broke two deaf world records at the US National Swimming Championship. He first broke the record in the 50m backstroke event with a time of 26.26 seconds. He then broke the record again in the same event, clocking in at an astonishing 19.77 seconds. This made him the first deaf swimmer to break 20 seconds in the 50m backstroke.
Klotz’s achievements have earned him numerous awards, including the ICSD Deaf Sportsman of the Year award in 2018. He is also a multiple national record holder.
In a unique turn of events, Klotz is set to appear on the 25th season of Big Brother. He will be the first hearing-impaired contestant in the show’s history.
