Who is Dr. Tracey St. Julian? A physician accused of decapitating baby during Birth

By | August 10, 2023

A lawsuit has been filed against a Georgia hospital and others involved in a delivery where a mother alleges her baby was decapitated during childbirth.

The lawsuit claims that the Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia, tried to hide the baby’s cause of death from the family, including the mother, 20-year-old Jessica Ross, and her boyfriend, Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr.

The baby, named after his father, was delivered at full term. The county medical examiner’s office has not yet disclosed the cause of death.

On July 9, Ross went into labor. Her doctor attempted a vaginal delivery using various methods, including applying traction to the baby’s head.

The delivery faced complications as the baby’s shoulders got stuck in the vaginal canal due to shoulder dystocia.

The lawsuit claims that the doctor failed to adhere to medical standards and negligently applied excessive traction to the baby’s head and neck. The delay in performing a Cesarean section led to the baby’s decapitation and death.

Southern Regional Medical Center denied the allegations made in the complaint against the hospital.

When Ross and Taylor asked to see and hold their baby, the hospital staff denied them, allowing only a viewing. The baby’s decapitation was not apparent during this viewing.

The medical center stated that it cannot discuss patient care due to HIPAA and privacy laws.

The medical center expressed sympathy for the family and praised its healthcare team’s dedication.

The physician involved in the delivery is not a hospital employee. The hospital has taken steps to address the situation.

The lawsuit alleges negligence by the medical center and the physician, Dr. Tracey St. Julian. The plaintiffs are seeking monetary damages for various losses, including the baby’s potential lifetime earnings and funeral expenses.

The county medical examiner’s office plans to release its findings on Thursday.
