Melody Felicano Johnson, a Tucson resident, has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, attempted aggravated assault, and poisoning food or drink.
The charges stem from an investigation into allegations that Johnson poisoned her husband, Roby Johnson, by secretly adding bleach to his coffee for several months.
The couple was reportedly going through a divorce at the time of the alleged poisonings. Roby Johnson began noticing an unusual and foul taste in his coffee in March, while he and Melody Johnson were stationed in Germany. He later used pool testing strips to determine that there were alarmingly high levels of chlorine in his coffee maker.
Roby Johnson then set up hidden cameras in their home, which captured footage of Melody Johnson surreptitiously adding an unknown substance to the coffee maker. The substance was later identified as bleach.
Melody Johnson has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. She is currently being held in the Pima County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
The case has drawn attention to the dangers of domestic violence, and the potential for spouses to harm each other in the midst of a divorce. It is also a reminder of the importance of being aware of your surroundings and taking precautions to protect yourself.
