The family of Noni Battiste-Kosoko, a 19-year-old woman who died in the Fulton County Jail in July, is speaking out about her death.

Battiste-Kosoko was arrested in May on a misdemeanor bench warrant and was being held without bond due to charges from Miami-Dade County in Florida. On July 11, she was found unresponsive in her cell around dinner time.

Officials said she was found by herself with no obvious signs of injury when medical personnel went to check on her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Battiste-Kosoko’s family is demanding answers about her death. They say she was a healthy young woman and they do not believe she should have died in jail.

“She was a beautiful, vibrant young woman with her whole life ahead of her,” said Battiste-Kosoko’s mother, LaShawnda Battiste. “We want to know what happened to her.”

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Battiste-Kosoko’s death. They have not released any further details about the case.

This is the second death in the Fulton County Jail in recent months. In June, 22-year-old Kendrick Johnson died after he was found unresponsive in his cell. His death is also under investigation.

The deaths of Battiste-Kosoko and Johnson have raised concerns about the safety and conditions in the Fulton County Jail. The jail has been plagued by problems in recent years, including overcrowding, violence, and allegations of inmate abuse.

The Battiste-Kosoko family is calling for an independent investigation into her death. They also want to see changes made to the Fulton County Jail to ensure that no other inmates die in custody.

“We want to make sure that this never happens again,” said Battiste-Kosoko’s father, Anthony Kosoko. “We want justice for our daughter.”
