Miami Mayor Drops Out of GOP Presidential Race

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has suspended his campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, just two months after launching his long-shot bid.

Suarez, 45, failed to meet the requirements set by the Republican National Committee to make the first presidential debate in Milwaukee last week. He had told CNN prior to the debate that he would drop out should he not make the stage.

“While I have decided to suspend my campaign for President, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains,” Suarez said in a statement.

Suarez was seen as a rising star in the Republican Party, but he faced an uphill battle in the crowded presidential field. He was also criticized for his lack of experience in national politics.

Suarez’s exit leaves the Republican presidential race with 15 candidates, including former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The Republican National Committee is expected to release the criteria for the next presidential debate later this month.
